The Spirit of The Second Shot Society
Welcome to The Second Shot Society.
The Society is built on a simple idea: golf is mostly about who you play with. Scores matter, but company matters more. Life is short, rounds are finite, and none of us should waste either on people who make the game harder than it needs to be.
Our members come in all forms. Some strike it purely, others creatively. Some travel often, others sacrifice to be here. Some enjoy bourbon, others pass. Some tell stories, others listen. What matters is not similarity, but acceptance and engagement. The Society works best when you arrive knowing a few and leave knowing many more.
We play by Society Rules, not the game, but to protect it. Pace is non-negotiable. Four hours is the standard. Triple bogey is the limit. Balls are dropped to preserve time, equipment, and temperament. The competition exists to keep things interesting, not to declare a champion.
Mulligans are permitted, not abused. Putts stand. Restraint is expected.
The first shot is forgotten. The next is played.
Evenings are part of the experience, never the obligation. Enjoyment is encouraged.
The Society values those who celebrate good shots — especially when they are not their own. One perfect shot per round can be enough.
The Second Shot Society is not for everyone. You must love golf, travel, and people. You must keep pace. You must understand that none of us get out of this alive — and that how we play together matters most.

First Trip
After evaluating our options end-to-end, Tampa Bay (specifically Downtown St. Petersburg) was the clear choice for the inaugural Second Shot Society trip.
This destination aligns best with how our members actually play golf, travel, and spend evenings, not just what looks good on paper. The area offers excellent golf with reliable pace of play, walkable dining, and a setting that supports camaraderie without unnecessary friction.
In addition to four rounds of golf, the trip will also include an optional fishing charter experience with YACHTFISH Fishing Charters, one of the premier operations in the Tampa Bay area.
More details, including courses, formats, and lodging, will be released soon.

Rules of Play & Conduct
Motto: Always in play.
Pace of Play (Primary Rule)
- Society rounds are scheduled at four (4) hours.
- Pace is expected, not negotiated.
- Repeat rounds and 36-hole days depend entirely on adherence to this standard.
Scoring
- All Society rounds will be scored using the 18Birdies application.
- Maximum score per hole: Triple Bogey.
- When a player reaches the point of playing for triple bogey, the ball is to be picked up immediately and play resumed on the next tee.
- Additional strokes may not be taken and later recorded as triple bogey.
- All putts stand as played.
Mulligans
- Mulligans are permitted on full shots only.
- Mulligans do not apply to putts.
- Restraint is expected.
Relief & Drops
- If a ball enters desert, rock, gravel, or similar natural areas, the ball may be dropped in sand, gravel, or hazard near where it is found or believed to have come to rest, without penalty.
- Searching is discouraged.
- Playing from rocks or tree roots is prohibited.
- Placing a ball on grass from these areas is permitted only with a one-stroke penalty.
- The intent is efficiency and preservation of equipment.
Dress
- Proper golf attire and collared shirts are required during Society rounds.
- A sport coat or blazer is required for Saturday evening dinner.
Evenings & Discretion
- Bourbon is to be enjoyed deliberately and never discussed the following morning.
- Members always represent the Society.
- Evening venues are entered by choice, departed by discretion, and never referenced publicly.
- Tabs are settled promptly and without debate.
- Transportation is arranged responsibly.
Disputes
Disagreements are resolved immediately and amicably — or not at all.
Review & Awards
- Scores are entered hole by hole and reviewed nightly via 18Birdies.
- Daily announcements and recognitions are made each evening over a cocktail.
The Society Rule
If it must be explained, it should not have been done.
